Honors and Awards


Elizabeth Burdette

In 2014 Elizabeth Burdette was awarded the Bishop Robert Smith award, the highest undergraduate award.  She also won a Fulbright scholarship to complete research in India.  See her InGenius event lecture from September, 25, 2013 about work done previously in India.


Asian Studies has had three students receive the nationally competitive Critical Languages Scholarship provided by the U.S. Department of State to study abroad in the home country of their language of choice.


In 2013, seven students were awarded Confucius Institute Scholarships to study Intensive Chinese at Guizhou University in China for the 2013-2014 academic year.


Madeline Edwards

In 2013 Madeline Edwards was awarded a scholarship to study Arabic in Jordan and Elizabeth Burdette studied Hindi in India.


Daniel Hodge

In 2012 Daniel Hodge was awarded a scholarship to study in Chinese in Shanghai.


In 2011-12 one student received the prestigious Boren Scholarship.
